Estimations and ServicesEstimationsClocks Again will give a general price quote over the phone, and a consultation free of charge, if conducted in our shop, or for a fee, if performed in your home. This consultation is by appointment only. In the consultation, we will look over your clock, explain how our service procedures apply to it, and answer any questions you may have. A final price quote is not available until after we perform a detailed examination of your clock, which we do in the pre-treatment phase of service. This examination does have a fee, which we waiver upon your acceptance of the final price quote. ServicesWe strive to perform all treatments to your clock in accordance with the AWCI Professional Standards and Practices for Clockmakers. Pre–Treatment ExaminationBefore any regular treatment, we perform a detailed examination of your clock. This includes a disassembled examination of the movement under a microscope. We document our findings for your records and develop a final cost proposal based on these findings. We will stop working on your clock until you approve the final cost proposal. If you decide against the proposal, we will reassemble your clock to the state originally presented to us and you can pick it up for the cost of the pre-treatment service only. There is no cost for this service if you accept the proposal because it is actually the first phase of the standard treatment. Standard Movement TreatmentAfter the pre–treatment examination, we clean each component using techniques and equipment deemed appropriate by industry standards and⁄or manufacturing recommendations for your particular clock. Then we repair or replace all worn components, polish or burnish pivot points, escapement, and working lever surfaces, reassemble and adjust the time⁄strike, lubricate all bearing surfaces, test the movement, and install it back into the case. Separate charges in this treatment include restoring excessively worn or broken parts, manufacturing new components, and replacing worn or broken mainsprings, chains, or suspension spring. Movement ReplacementWe will replace production movements produced after 1970, if that is your preference. These movements consist of lead–based, plated steel that wears rapidly and can be more costly to repair than to replace. We will only replace a movement with a movement of like kind and configuration. This treatment includes transferring the mounting brackets and suspension unit to the new movement, testing it, beat⁄strike adjustment, and case installation. Case RepairThis treatment is for clock cases that have superficial damage. Common case repairs include securing loose trim, bezel, or dial, and replacing broken glass that is plain or with decal. Minor TreatmentsWe reserve these treatments for clocks serviced within the past year. They include any treatment that does not require disassembling of the movement, such as setting the clock in beat, replacing a bent or broken suspension spring, and consultations about maintenance, and⁄or operating procedures. ————————GuaranteeClocks Again guarantees parts and labor for one year to the extent of the work preformed. If, within the one–year period, any replaced parts prove defective or labor performed proves less than satisfactory, we will correct the problem free of charge. This guarantee is void if the clock shows evidence of abuse, misuse, damage due to dropping, tampering with in any way, or servicing by someone else. Work we are unable to perform, we contract out to specialists. This includes, but is not limited to, dial conservation, complicated parts machining, painted or beveled glass replacement, and case conservation or restoration. We do not repair disassembled clocks or clocks that are missing major components and we reserve the right to refuse any clock. |
